Sound and Editing

In this clip there is no sound-track as this is building to the climax and the silence emphasizes the importance of the dialogue which is used from the characters. In this sequence here is only diegetic sound and at the very beginning there is the sound of a loud buzzing noise which is a drill, the drill was seen piecing a hole which may hint to us that someone may be getting harmed or killed by a bullet or knife. The sound effects used is the bang of the bullet when the teenager gets shot. The sound also contributes to the mood of text and increases tension between two of the characters. There is a low angle of one of the antagonist showing his superiority which typical of TV dramas as this presents the character as being masculine and powerful. Another shot shows a high angle of a male character which is not typical of the representation of men, this shows him to be inferior and weak. Both male characters dominate the screen which again is typical of TV drama's. The dialogue is he major sound effect and will help represent the characters personality and mood he is in. The character with the gun is speaking very calm and seems to know what he is doing and the character who is threatened is scared and very nervous to what the killer may do. We can see from the close-up of his face that is frightened and about to cry because of the position he is in, which is not typical of the representation of men and subverts the stereotypes. Silence is used through out the sequence and is there to create tension and suspense between the two characters. The silence also emphasis the situation the victim is in. The use of gun also re enforcers the power of the male antagonist and the control he may have.
Editing
Editing is used in this sequence is continuity and in chronological order. This also helps keep the audience interested to see what will happen next. The is a lot of cuts used between the killer and the victim to again create tension and the cuts are slow which matches the mood of the cinematography and sound. Another important cut is where there is a close-up of the gun as the victim watches it which also show maximizes the situation he is in and exaggerates the size of the gun. The final important cut is where the other killer shoots the victim and the camera cuts to a high angle of them in the room which shows the emptiness of the room and hints to us that they may be outcasts. This also shows the male antagonist to being inferior and subverts stereotypes. There is an eye line match where we see from the killers view and the victims view to put he audience in the same situation as them.
